Develop the skills needed to succeed in the tech industry while working full-time.
Our goal is to remove as many barriers as possible for people to enter the technical industry with a focus on those who have had limited opportunities. In many cases, the largest barrier is that people simply do not have the savings acquired to pursue programming full time. Therefore, our program members will undergo a rigorous 8 – 12 month paid apprenticeship. We will also provide them with laptops that they may keep upon graduation. During this time, our apprentices will gain instruction on modern programming technologies such as C#, JavaScript, React, SQL, and AWS. Participants will immediately put these skills into practice as they learn them via projects. Additionally, our apprentices will gain industry experience through their work at partner organizations. To ensure our apprentice’s continued success, the course will also cover topics such as professional development and general business acumen. We believe our training model reflects our mission while giving our apprentices a shot at success. Let us help you achieve your goals. Apply today!
Over the past decade, we have seen a 23% increase in the number of people employed by the technology sector. With the third highest average wage of any major occupational group in 2019, the computer and technology industries continue to grow at outstanding rates. Despite this growth, the opportunities presented have not been evenly distributed. For example, the black community have accounted for only 7% of the tech workforce in 2010, 8% in 2015 and 9% in 2020 while making up 13.4% of the total US population. Our goal is to eliminate this and other similar disparities across the spectrum of minority communities. We aim to teach coding, technical, and professional skills through a joint curriculum of classroom and real-world experience. If you possess the spark, we will happily provide your start.

As a local and national leader in tech, Unicentric has the connections and experience to aid spark2start in its mission of helping black and minority Americans with a high-school degree or GED equivalent gain access to high-paying jobs in a technical field. Unicentric was founded with the mission of creating software for people who help people. Since our inception, we have strived to create high quality software for a wide array of non-profit organizations across the U.S. In 2015, Unicentric relocated its offices to the distrissed community of Braddock, PA in an effort to bring business and tech to the area. However, following some of the events of 2020, we decided it was time to do more and created spark2start. spark2start overcomes the financial roadblocks for participants by providing them a paycheck which is funded by partnering with businesses, such as Unicentric, that underwrite the program and provide gainful employment for participants.
